Allah did not teach His Prophet knowledge except that He ordered him to teach it to the Commander of the Faithful and he was a partner in the knowledge

Allah did not teach His Prophet knowledge except that He ordered him to teach it to the Commander of the Faithful and he was a partner in the knowledge

`Ali from his father from ibn Abi `Umayr from ibn Udhayna from Zurara from Abu Ja`far

He said: Jibra’il عليه السلام descended upon the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله with two pomegranates from Paradise. So he (i.e. the Prophet) took one and ate it; then he broke the other into two halves. He then gave `Ali عليه السلام one half, and he ate it. So he said: O `Ali, the first pomegranate which I had eaten was prophethood; for you there is no share in it. And as for the second [pomegranate], it is knowledge, and you are my partner in it. (al-Kafi, Volume 1, hadith 679)

Muhammad b. Yahya from Muhammad b. al-Hasan from Muhammad b. `Abd al-Hameed from Mansoor b. Yunus from ibn Udhayna from Muhammad b. Muslim.

He said: I heard Abu Ja`far عليه السلام say: Jibra’il descended to Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله with two pomegranates from Paradise. `Ali عليه السلام met him and said: What are these two pomegranates that are in your hands? So he said: As to this one, it is prophethood in which there is no share for you; and as to this one, it is knowledge. Then the Messenger of Allahصلى الله عليه وآله broke it into two halves, and gave one half to him and the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله took [the other] half. Then he said: You are my partner in it and I am your partner in it. He (i.e. the Imam) said: By Allah, there is nothing of the knowledge that was taught to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله that he did not teach to `Ali; and then he transferred it to us. He then placed his hand upon his chest. (al-Kafi, Volume 1, hadith 680)
